When You Feel Discouraged

It can be really easy to feel discouraged. Especially when you’ve been trying to do something new and you haven’t reached the end goal yet.

Discouraged is an emotion.

It’s a vibration in your body, created by the thoughts you think.

When you think of the word discouraged, it literally means “without courage”.

Think about how you feel in your body when you’re feeling discouraged.

Do your shoulder shrink down a little bit?

Do you feel a bit of a pit in your stomach?

How does it physically feel?

Because if you want to shift out of discouraged, you’ve got to shift into your body first.

Doing this allows space for curiosity and movement of the vibration. When you fight against feeling discouraged, you’ll just end up frustrated. To let the emotion of frustration work its way through your body, invite your body to relax.

In this episode of the podcast, I go over a few tools to help you when you’re feeling overwhelmed or discouraged. Some of them include:

-Finish what you started. When you start too many tasks without finishing, it’s like opening too many tabs on your browser. Start by finishing the things that you have started.

-Embrace “and”. When you are brutally honest with yourself, it helps you to get unstuck. Embracing “and” is learning to lean into the juxtaposition. “This is hard AND I can do it.” “I’m not feeling well AND I can get the kids on the school bus.” This way you’re not lying to yourself and you start moving forward.

-Envision and focus on the kind of person you are or want to be. For example, in order to be better at flossing, I remind myself that “I’m the kind of person who flosses their teeth every night” even if it’s my first night of doing it in a week.

Have a great week and catch you on the podcast!
